Members 3x10
I am basically a Strat/Tele into a Blackface amp guy. I have put together a small rack with stuff that I have had laying around unused for years. Voodoo Lab pre>Peavey Valverb>Carvin T100 This is really all I need (no fx needed other than verb). I am not really happy with the Voodoo Lab. I am only using the clean channel (I don't care for their version of dirt) and would like to find something more "Fendery" for a preamp. I've tried swapping tubes out for higher quality NOS types, but didn't realy notice much difference. Any body have any suggestions for a different preamp? Members shepherdspy
CAE 3+SE probably has the best cleans but it is 2U and costly. Alembic F2-B is THE Fender preamp and 1U but might be kinda hard to find used. Egnater cleans are nice.

Members Sick Michael
A mesa boogie studio or Quad preamp will probably get as close to a blackface twin as you'll hear in a preamp.
Members oregonjoe
I can get a great fender sound out of this at any volume.
Members pbhtrip
As already said, the Alembic F2-B is THE blackface Fender sound. My fav amps are my blackface Bandmaster head and my blackface showman head. I picked up the Alembic recently and I'm thrilled because it is right there with the heads. Of course it depends on the power amp that you mate the pre with, but it can most certainly do the job for the Fender sound. Peter
