My preamp signal was double amplified!

I use ENGL E530 preamp, and I connected HUSH noise gate to it this way:

left line out -> nouse gate -> right return -> right line out -> poweramp

In engl suggested me not to connect that way cause my signal would be double amplified. Instead of LEFT LINE OUT it's better to use INSTRUMENT OUT!

heres the path

I noticed a slight lack of gain at the same setting of my preamp lately!

Is it possible that something suffered during my first connection with a double amped signal (but reduced line level)? I used it for months.

Also I changed preamp tubes month or two ago, and had a JB-7 rewounded couple months ago.

Its nothing serious, but what are chances that new tubes from eurotubes weakened or JB as now rewounded got in a characteristic state?

Yeah, if you look where it says Instrument Out on the jack it also says "effects loop send" underneath it. I'm not sure if what you did could have messed anything up; sure seems like it would make it sound bad though.

yeah, it says "loop send" but I didn't have cable long enough to reach it :( (till now)

but my sound wasn't bad though, it was just louder, so I was thinking was it possible that it caused damages of some kind in preamp or SS poweramp?
