How do you add rhythm tracks?

I'm not new to guitar playing but I want to start playing out...coffee house, winery, places like that. I've got an acoustic amp with inputs for guitar and mike. Rather than just sing and strum, I'd like to add rhythm tracks...base and drums...to acoustic rock cover tunes. This is where I need some input. I see these guys playing out...one push on the pedal or button and the bass and drum tracks start as he sings and strums. I checked out the Digitech DGX4 workstation. The sales rep says you can download bass and drum tracks from the internet for cover tunes. Is that right? From which sites? Or do you have to program in the drum track and bass? Know of any good material to read on this topic? I'm a novice at this so any advice would really help.

I think the sales rep was talking about midi files. If you have got a decent computer they can sound ok (if you download the good ones).

Search on the net for the name of the song you want followed by midi. If it exists you should find it (there are hundreds of free midi sites out there).

When your done, delete the parts you don't want and burn the drum / bass tracks to CD. Or save them to an mp3 player, or copy them to minidisk or tape. There is your backing tracks ready to plug into the PA.

Here are some sites, no guarantees that they are any good or not (quick google search).
