Open Drum/Perc Mapper?

Probably 20 yrs ago now, Cakewalk/Sonar II rolled out 1 of the most innovative practical drum s'ware EVAH!! The reason it was so practical is because while it had no sounds, it allowed you to use ANY h'ware or s'ware drum module, regardless of sample format, and you could use a Kick from something like AD2, a snare from Battery, Toms from EZ Drumz, etc. Then, you could also use multiple MIDI ch. from those same devices or s'ware. You could transpose 1 note assignment to another. So, the beautiful thing is you weren't stuck with using the FULL kit of something, when you only needed one sample of it. It had a template for Complete GM Drums, or you could create your own, so EVERY STINKING SAMPLE ON YOUR HDD could be used at once if you so desired. From what I remember, the only problems with it were if you edited it, or if you uninstalled 1 of those drum sources the template kind of fell apart, and they never developed a way that you could even print it out so you could remember where everything was assigned, but it seems like that should be something a Coding 101 class could teach.

Before I migrated to PreSonus SO6 AFTER I left Sonar I had BEGGED Cakewalk to upgrade what was just 1 of the coolest, and convenient features of ANY DAW I'd ever seen, but they never would listen. And as innovative as PreSonus is, AND THEY ARE, I haven't been able to get them to move off the stump either. I just got off of 2 days of scouring KvR.com looking for little goodies to add to my DAW since it had been awhile, and again, no one has a pkg out there that does this. AMAZING!

So, I'm wondering if any true programming geeks out there (they're usually keyboard players from my experience) that could develop a stand alone app like this. Again, it's NOT a .WAV, or SF2, or .SFZ PLAYER, it's simply a mapper. I bet you could sell it to at least ONE of these major DAW developers for a pretty penny.

JUST A THOUGHT!
