Getting a cheap but tough live sound set up

Listen to the be patient and buy used recommendations. This is the only way you're going to get anything truly usable on your budget. No idea where you're located, but if it's near a metropolitan area just start searching ebay and craigslist daily and locate any second hand stores, and pawn shops. Of course, you have to be careful when buying used, but over time should be able to put something usable for a few thousand dollars. The tighter the budget the longer to put something of quality together. It may take a 6 months to a year of looking to get this done. It probably won't be the sexiest or the most portable, efficient, but you can't be too choosy. You're just looking for quality gear in decent shape and at good used prices.

I think the OP needs to be clearer about what he wants to achieve, it's not clear from his post what he wants to put through the PA.

You say that you only have one mic, but then also say you need enough monitors for everyone to hear themselves. This seems to suggest that you are looking to put more than just the vocals through the PA.

So, do you want to put any instruments through the PA?

If all the guitars have amps and the drums aren't being mic'ed, then all you're really after is a vocal only PA, in which case all you need is a mixer, 2 powered spkrs for FOH and a powered monitor for the singer.

Without this extra info you won't get a useful reply, so try and give a detailed description of what you want to achieve.:thu:
