Vintage mic/stand combo units?

I was just watching a couple of my DVDs of the American Folk Blues Festival (BTW, if you're a fan of post-WWII blues and you don't have these, just buy them. For $10 or $12 apiece they're incredible historical documents featuring the who's who of the '60s blues scene, and sound quality is remarkably good).

This time, I noticed that many of the mics looked like Shure 58s, but they seemed to screw right on to the stands without a holder. The stands had a curved section like a gooseneck, but they looked more like a solid shaft throughout the curved section.

I couldn't see any wires on most of these, and this was way before Milli Vanilli.;)

An Earl Hooker bonus track seemed to have a cord coming from the curved section, but I didn't see that on most of them.

I assume ah or someone else is familiar with these?

The web is getting more awesome all the time. Here's a picture of the unit I'm talking about, in the center of the photo. I believe these shows were all held in Germany, and perhaps some of the equipment was local.
