Members C. Martin
I have started this thread to find out your opinions and comments on kurzweil products. I hate them, but I want to know what you think. The Kurzweil Thread!!! How's the key action? How do you think the key action is? Great? Crappy? Ok? Does it connect to the sound ok? How are the sounds? How are there "Award Winning Sounds"? Is the piano good? Is it passable? How are the other sounds? What could be better? How's the user interface? Is it easy to use? Are the buttons well marked? Anything Else? Now, is there anything else you want to add? Comments, ideas, reviews? p120dUdE
Members jchas
I can only speak for the PC2x and K2000. At the time of my purchase (a few years ago) the PC2xdidn't have much competition. The Yamahas were toobright - too expresive - almost as if they went a littleover-the-top. I could tell when I tried the S80 and anothermodel (can't remember which one) that they would cut a live mix better than the PC2, but I need one that sounds more beleivable on recordings and the PC2 has never let me down there. The key action - perfect for my style playing. I tend to be a bitheavy handed and I can get all the dynamics I need out of it(one of the complaints i've read here numerous times). Notonly does it feel good for my piano playing but I can poundout ELP's Hoedown organ part and it can keep up with me. Sounds: Stellar - unsurpassed. I've heard good things about the P120/P250 piano sounds and I do want to check one out to seeif they've finally got it right - but I can't imagine that the rest ofthe acoustic sounds could hold their own compared to the Kurz. The drums alone are the most realistic i've heard for recording. Interface - Up and running right out of the box. There are someshort cuts to learn from the manual, but you can navigate, layer, split, run multi-timbral etc. with never checking the manual. The PC2's pianos are, to my ear, designed to fit into a recordingmix. They blend well with every instrument combination i've tried without always demanding attention. I can't imagine a better piano sound for ballads.
Members b3keys
Just got a Kurz K2661. Sounds: amazing. I have the ROM 3 (Piano) and ROM 4 (Vintage Keys) installed. The piano board provides a nice alternative to the Yamaha Motif ES. The vintage sounds are great. Many classic sounds are programmed. Key action. Light and quick. I will probably use this MIDI'd to my XP80 or ES8. The interface is deep, but I think it will be rewarding and challenging to learn. Can't wait to spend more time with this board. Members cheptronics
At the university we had a Kurzweil PC-88 that they traded from a good acoustic upright piano. I couldn't play correctly with the PC-88 : the keyboard was too soft, the sounds were too pop-music-suited, and I was used to my P-200 / sampler or to the P-150 of my neighbour (not mentionning acoustic pianos) In a nutshell, I found the PC-88 very artificial (while simulating other instruments) and very overpriced The all-in-ones like the K26XX may be good, but for that price a laptop computer with a high-end sound card (RME Hammerfall Multiface + QuadraMic) is far more powerfulKurzweil is definitely for expensive hardware fans
