Members mytee2.0
neosoul? Does that sound anything like indietronica or new age progressive electodiphthongica? try a used emu mophatt, I think that has drum sounds.
Members Newget
NeoSoul, R&B, call it what you wish, I'm looking to record some bass licks to a drum machine that has a deep kick and a tight snare. Musical influence examples include Me'shell N'Degeocello, Philadelphia Expirement, The Roots, Soulive
Members guitman
You should be able to find a Boss DR-202 on Ebay for under 200 bucks. They actually sound pretty good for this style of music.

Members orangefunk
I think for neo soul ( I'm thinking of bands like Nuspirit Helsinki and the like?) you might need something with extensive groove and swing options... not sure about the state of drum machines as I haven't owned one since 1986! Members Mook
I thought that an MPC was a must for this type of music, or am I being too stereotypical...

Cheap samplers, Emu-ESI series, Ensoniq EPS, Korg..er, the groove box one...you can find em all for 200 or about.
