Members jeffsfrey
Can anyone tell me if the KX-88 has fully weighted keys, or is it only semi weighted like a DX7 ?
Members jigg
Fully weighted. Google is your friend.
Members The Piano Man
Is the DX7 semi-weighted? I thought it had standard synth-action keys. ie plastic, not much more than that......
Members jeffsfrey
From all my searching I've been finding conflicting info on the answer to this question.
Members r33k
The DX7 is unweighted synth-action and the KX88 is fully weighted. "There /is/ no conflict."
Members jigg
There's also the KX76, which I don't think is fully weighted. This may be where the contradictory information's coming from. The KX88 does have fully weighted keys. They don't feel the greatest, something similar to Korg's weighted touch, but still good and heavy. The DX is only synth action, nice and light. Members jigg
Sure it wasn't a DX1 or DX5 or a model with damaged keys? The DX7 has 61 synth-action, velocity-sensitive keys with aftertouch.
Members r33k
Or maybe he's confused as to what "semi-weighted" means. Just because a keyboard has keys with little metal weights glued onto their undersides, doesn't make it a "semi-weighted" keyboard. There's more to it than that. Members eric
This should not be too complicated. The original DX7 used a 61-note synth-action keyboard that Yamaha named the "FS" action. This action has permeated just about all of Yamaha's pro synths as well as many Korg synths. The current crop of Motifs and Tritons (other than the 88-note versions) still use the FS action. It is a synth action that could be described as unweighted. The KX-88 is a completely different action that uses 88 keys that are weighted like a piano action. Hope this helps. Members ebonivory
Just as an aside, as a controller and as a keyboard, the KX88, a fantastic keyboard in its day is a bit dated. There are better choices around, and some pretty reasonably priced.
