Have a history teacher explain this----- if they can.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.

John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy.

Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.

Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.

Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'

Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.

Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland

A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

Creepy huh? Send this to as many people as you can, cause: Hey, this is one history lesson people don't mind reading

The coincidences are easily explained as the simple product of mere chance. It's not difficult to find patterns and similarities between any two marginally-related sets of data, and coincidences similar in number and kind can be (and have been) found between many different pairs of Presidents. Our tendency to seek out patterns wherever we can stems from our desire to make sense of our world; to maintain a feeling that our universe is orderly and can be understood. In this specific case two of our most beloved Presidents were murdered for reasons that make little or no sense to many of us, and by finding patterns in their deaths we also hope to find a larger cosmic "something" that seemingly provides some reassuring (if indefinite) rhyme or reason why these great men were prematurely snatched from our mortal sphere.

Alot of the dismissals in the link though are utterly nonsensical. It on the whole is quite an unusual set of links. The fact that each factor isolated being not too strange has nothing to do with it, it's the combination of similarities that make it interesting. Saying "it isn't surprising they were both killed on Fridays because Friday is a day in the week"...more or less, does he think he's lecturing to morons or what?

Reminds me of the popular statistics experiement: what are the odds of 2 people having the same birthday in a classroom of 30 people? The result is much higher than most people guess.

On a side note I dislike the fact that Lincoln is praised so much considering how much of his behavior neglected the Constitution. Sure, Lincoln took a step toward true freedom for African Americans...but that doesn't justify walking all over the Constitution. :(

interesting facts about James A Garfield and William McKinley, both assasinated by people with vaguely foreign sounding names, they were both born in the 19th century..in Ohio, the coincidences get creepier, they were both mediocre presidents, they both liked to drink warm milk before beddy time..the list goes on...

as a side note Lincoln "trampled" over the constitution in order to hold the states together,if you don't have any states(secession) how can you have any pudding..erm constitution, slavery became the issue only after the southern states rebuffed the union and by proxy the constitution...word

You can't go and make war with your own country. Perhaps they were better off on their own. Who knows? At any rate there can't be times the Constitution is allowed to be ignored and other times it isn't. FDR also comes to mind as someone who neglected the law at times, but I guess if it weren't for him I'd be writing in German. ;):D

yeah....this was big news back in 1980 when it was said that every prez who got elected in a year that ends in a zero dies in office. Much to the detriment of the world, President "see no crack or AIDS" did not die and lived long enough to serve two very unpleasant terms and then die some sort of hero to misguided folks who dont care about how regular people live.

regardless, his incompetnece has been overcome by the current chimp in office. and all previous curses/predictions/historical precedents are over and done with.

Is a new world. There are far bigger fights and horrors to worry about. I supoose this kennedy-licoln stuff is nifty if you;re a stoned teenager (and I fully encourage the stoned teenager), but otherwise.....yawn

Would you rather have Lincoln not challenge the Constitution and continue the slave trade? Think about it, that was the mid-to-late 1800's and ending slavery wasn't exactly the focus of the Constitution then. Laws should be challenged if they're not for the freedom of all people.

It on the whole is quite an unusual set of links.

Names and dates are as arbitrary as they get, and men mark it when they hit, but not when they miss.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'

Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

These things have nothing to do with eachother, it's just that the names match. Where's the word 'Kennedy' in the first sentence?

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland

A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

Which of course sounds much better than "was with Norma Jean Baker." Hey, the rest of the names in this little piece were correct, why not this one?

Saying "it isn't surprising they were both killed on Fridays because Friday is a day in the week"...more or less, does he think he's lecturing to morons or what?

Never overestimate the intelligence of people who'll regard everything that lands in their inbox as divine truth. This includes the penis enlargement adverts.

Or, this is why we are still receiving the "forward this e-mail and Bill Gates will give you $3".

Skeptical Inquirer magazine asked their readers a few years back to look for similar coincidences between other pairs of Presidents. They found a lot of them. One reader also found some 16 similarities between John Kennedy and former Mexican president Alvaro Obregon.
