Soundfonts - WOW!!!

All these days, i've heard of people talking about soundfonts and how thye use it and all that, but i never took it very seriously thinking that its just gonna be crap since its free......

 

 

 

.....i couldnt be more wrong! :idea: Just today, i downloaded a free sf file and opened it in NN-XT, added some verb and dlay and WOW!! the sound i get it is as good as my Fantom S's!

There are indeed a lot of decent soundfonts out there. Sonic Implants is one of my favorite makers of cheap commercial soundfonts--check out their Blue Jay drum kits and their afro-cuban percussion SF2s. Really fine and really cheap.

 

SoundFonts get pretty interesting when you use them as fodder for synthy manipulation. One of my favorite features of Crystal is SoundFont support. Grab the freebie samples from the famous Early Patches soundfont and try running a decent Oud sample through crystal's nine-point, syncable filter envelopes three synced delays, etc.
