SOLD!

Brief & Accurate Description of gear/guitar: In great condition, I recently retubed it with Tung Sol KT88s, Penta Labs 12AT7s, and JAN Philips 12AT7s, about $200 worth right there. The amp sounds amazing and will make everything you put in it sound glorious, even if it doesn't sound that great to begin with. It has some minor rack rash and a small indentation on the bottom right of the front, but these are pretty minor and the amp is working perfectly.

Regrettably I do not have any current pictures, these are all fairly old, however I assure you that the amp is in the same condition that these pictures show. I will try and get some new pics ASAP if you want them.

Thanks!

Compare it to a Boogie 2:90...

Well, to be completely honest I have never owned a Boogie 2:90 or any Boogie power amp for that matter. Looking at pictures and online reviews, these are the obvious feature differences:

- VHT has 6550/KT88 tubes, Mesa has 6L6/EL34 and also simulclass ( 6L6+EL34 ). The VHT will have a tighter and more powerful sound, where the Mesa will have a different voicing based on the Mark series of amp.

- Both are stereo with independent volume and presence controls, the VHT has independent depth controls, a voicing button, and a half power switch. The Boogie has a Deep switch, Modern switch, and Half power switch. The Boogie has the advantage that these can be controlled by amp relay switching, like on a footswitch or the Triaxis, but the VHT has a controllable depth knob. Depends on which you prefer -- the only person I know that has a 2:90 leaves it on the same settings for all his Triaxis patches, and I have heard that you can get pops and a pause if you try to switch these settings.

- The VHT has 4 preamp tubes and 4 power amp tubes, and the Mesa has 8 power amp tubes and 3 preamp tubes. The Mesa will be more expensive to retube.

- The VHT is shiny chrome and the Mesa is black.

I'd guess its a taste issue... There is a 2:90 on eBay for $900+shipping BIN, so they're in the same price range. The VHT 2/90/2 is really tight, lots of clean headroom, and with the half power switch you can get into the nice tube coloration ( not overdrive/distortion to be precise ) at a decent stage/recording volume.
