Heres some "open" tunings for slide/blues

E6 (6) =low E

E1 (1)= High E

 

Standard tuning: E1=highE,B,middleG,middleD,lowA,E6=lowE

 

Open E: E1=high E,B,middle E(raise G to E),G#(raise D to G#),B(raise A to B),E6=lowE

 

Open G:high D (lower high E to D),B,G, D,low G(lower A to G),lowD (lower E6 to D)

 

Open D: lower E1 to D,B lower to A,G lower to F#,D,A, E6 lower to D

 

Open C: E1=high E,B raise to C,G,D lower to C,A lower to G,E6 lower to C

 

Open D6: E1 lower to B, B lower to A,G lower to F#,D,A,E6 lower to D

 

Open G,Dropped C:E1 lower to D,B,G,D, A lower to G, E6 lower to C

 

Dropped D:E1=E,B,G,D,A,E6 lower to D

I always thought c6 tuning was cool for slide -
EGCACE
Another variant would be -
CEGACE

I find myself using the top one more though.

A cool variant of D6 tuning looks like this -
DADF#BD

You can still get cool sounds without the radical drop of the high E to B

This tuning is one I've been dabbling in for a while. It has a nice, strange ambient quality to it -
EBF#BC#D

This one works well for pulling off some Ravi Shankar or other Indian style things-
CGCGCF

This is a nice Hawaiian tuning utilized by Keola Beamer-
FBbCFAD

This is an open Asus4 tuning. It's kinda neat
DAC#EAE

This tuning lends itself well to jazz pieces. The trick is knowing what strings not to play.
C#FGBbCD
