Left hand position?

I find this one to be most comfortable for Blues (penetonic) style riffs:
- Thumb hooked over, palm touching the edge (or palm completely holding neck with thumb wrapped over).
Ever watch a video of Hendrix or Clapton?

For fast neo classical spider finger action its best to use this IMO:
- Thumb on the bass side, palm not touching the edge.
but the thumb tends to move around on the back of neck depending on which string your picking, for example if you picking the high E then your thumb would most likely be under that string under the neck...

Learn to use them both efficiently in different situations, for instance Vibrato is much easier with the blues style using your ring finger, or when you do them 5-6 fret stretch is not healthy to use the palm under neck and could cause pain and eventually tendonitus.

Hmm...never really thought about it much. I guess when I'm soloing, my thumb travels with my fingers. It's usually not locked in any one area. I do find it creeping over the top and holding roots on the 6th string during bluesy things, but usually it stays behind like a good little digit. My palm only touches if the thumb comes over the top.
