i just started this site recently (trying to stay buisy after my mother passed away last month)

anyway, i just started it on Sep 10th, so right now the lessons are geared towards the beginner, but soon i will put more in-depth lessons, most lessons on the net are just the I-IV-V stuff that you learn when starting to slide.

i will try to put new and more advanced lessons each day, but right now its for the new guy. maybe i could keep getting more and more in-depth, and then archive all lessons for the site. anyway check now, or maybe later if you already know the basics, but i WILL be updating almost daily.

thanks, its

i have heard someone alse had trouble getting in.

you can try just erasing the http/ and just typing badfish_7.tripod.com

right now there are only 1 or 2 little excercises for beginners to get used to the new sounds in open D. i also put out a little info on the tunings. but yesterday i made the page, and today put in the few lessons, so it's coming along, but very soon i will put in some more advanced stuff. on the web, the only sites i found show you the most basic I-IV-V progressions and show you how to slide up to the 12th fret.

i like alot of music. i like what jerry cantrell from alice in chains has done with open D, he recorded a few songs (with AIC and with his solo albums) that are dark and pretty at the same time.

some older music i like is some elmore james (i believe i'll dust my broom, and it hurts me too are the 1st ones i think of in open D),

and blind willie johnson, who recorded "dark was the night, cold was the ground". he uses the slide to immitate his voice (or vice-versa) and gets a real eeiry yet beautiful vibe.

i like some of ry cooder's work, but more of his blues-based stuff rather than the flamenco style stuff. he usually uses open D.

and i like open G tuning, its a little brighter so i dont use it as much as D, but i still have written a few things in G.

i also plan to have some of my own stuff in tab on the site soon, which shows that you can make songs that dont really fit into any style. i cant really explain the style, but it uses sounds that are very deep and emotional, almost sad and happy, but have a "clean metal" and an "old blues" sound.

maybe try just typing the badfish_7.tripod.com and see if it works. i'd like to hear what you think and see if i'm headed the right direction (but remember i just started it yesterday:) ), but i will get good riffs/songs/lessons/etc going as soon as humanly possible

by the way, how long have you been messing with open tunings?

i grew up playing and learning my favorite rock/metal songs, (11-19) then i discovered blues (older blues) and learned what i could in standard tuning for a couple years, then about age 23-24 i started with the open tunings, i'll be 27 in october. i play a little of everything except straight country. i have nothing against it, but i was not around it much. in standard tuning i'll play anything from hendrix to sublime, but in open tunings i'm starting to find my own stuff, which is a good thing- in standard i find it hard to be original, even if the music is good.

thanks, man

i really do plan to update as often as i get time, better/more advanced tabs/lessons eventually.

i havent heard that dylan song, but i'll check it out. i love hearing all the different things achieved in open D, the tuning that most people think is "simple". it is simple in a way if you only play major chords or dont explore all the possibilities or harmonic possibilities, but if you give it time you will find alot of things not possible in any other tuning!

take it easy and thanks for the feedback;)

hey, no problem.

i am getting ready to get more in-depth and advanced, but it'll take a few days. i am going to work everything out on paper first, so i will be ready to just get on there and add a few at a time.

i plan on keeping the beginner lessons, and just keep adding links to page 2,3,etc.

i'll try to do the same with the more advanced lessons, but i'll try to leave everything there and just add (if i can without having to pay for the site!), so even a beginner can come in there and learn, then hopefully skip to the harder stuff.

if you do tune to open D and have a delay pedal (short delays, 1 repeat) the little "classical sounding" guitar piece i wrote sounds good.

i still play in standard occasionally, but i usually find myself just practicing speed metal. but writing in open D or G i have some good stuff on paper that i've written through the years.

i still plan on slide lessons, but i'm also gonna put some more fingerpicking, mostly real bluesy stuff.

anyway, thanks for the feedback to you all, and check back in there in a week or so if you like what you see, i'll be putting more there!
