Members motherlode Posted March 15, 2005 Members Posted March 15, 2005 In, I believe, 1944 Bird and Diz made a recording of "Groovin' High" in Eb...on Bird's 3rd chorus he plyed a phrase that would make Erik Satie blush...the changes are Eb for two bars , D7 for two bars then back to Eb for two bars, etc....anyway, Bird plays on the first Eb : F# G Bb D F Eb D C Bb Ab G F Eb Bb C# (tied over) D7: C# (2 beats) G# B A G F# A E A C Eb D Bb (tied over) Eb: Bb...etc. The raw beauty and logic of what Bird played on that D7 made liars of a whole generations of musicians AND theorist alike (that dom 7th schoolby {censored}), all the way back to Bach !! Play it slowly and really listen...and hopefully aquire insight into the mysteries of the universe...
