Members guitar_god Posted September 15, 2005 Members Posted September 15, 2005 What scales most people use on country? Im using pentatonic scales but still soundig like blues. I need your help!!!
Members Cackalacky Posted September 15, 2005 Members Posted September 15, 2005 Major scale. NO LYDIAN. Over a IV chord use it's Ionian scale, more traditional sounding. There's nothing harmonically wrong with using Lydian, but it'll take it out of that iconoclastic country sound.
Members gennation Posted September 16, 2005 Members Posted September 16, 2005 Go here:Go to the Advanced Pentatonic Tutorial A lot of country/chicken pickin' is Major Pentatonic, but they actually combine Major and Minor sounds together to form more chromatic movements in their playing. This sytle also crosses over to a number of other scales in the prcess to. Go to my lessons and it'll open up a whole new world for you. You'll see. There's about 50 or 60 lessons and about 70% deal with country-fied ideas...Albert Lee, Steve Morse, Ray Flacke, Pete Anderson, etc... Check them out for sure. Nake sure to read the Introduction so you see where these are heading.
Members soc_monki Posted September 16, 2005 Members Posted September 16, 2005 i dont really like country music...but a guy i used to work with had a Brent Mason DVD or video or something on the computer, and that man can PLAY! all those guys are extremely out of their minds. crazy guys...i like the ideas, and the way they play (instrumental stuff) i just dont like most of the artists... no matter who you are or what your music tastes are, you cannot say those guys suck just because they play country...
