Members mhoward Posted December 13, 2008 Members Posted December 13, 2008 I'd like to make backing tracks for the songs I'm working on, which are mostly blues. What's the best Windows software for creating backing tracks? A pro jazz player suggested Band in a Box and I bought that a few years ago, but I find it really complicated and never use it. Any time I try to set up a song, it sounds like an organ grinder is playing it. I've tried tweaking the instruments and the styles and I just can't get it sounding right and I don't have the patience to work through the tons of help text. There ought to be something easy. I just want to set up a beat on drums and a simple chord progression on keyboards that I can solo with on guitar. And I don't want to spend all day doing it! I hear that Acoustica Mixcraft is similar to Apple's GarageBand. Anyone have experience with that? What do you use? If you like BIAB, can you point me to a good tutorial on how to easily set the dang thing up?

Members Annoying Twit Posted December 13, 2008 Members Posted December 13, 2008 An alternative to band-in-a-box is to use a hardware solution, such as the Yamaha QY70. There are other similar-ish products by other manufacturers. http://www.yamahasynth.com/products/qy70/index.html
Members jerrye Posted January 5, 2009 Members Posted January 5, 2009 Check out the yamaha stuff, as mentioned, and other ARRANGERS. That's the buzzword you're looking for. Check out one man band software, free demo.
