Members fishingprize
Hey everyone,What is the essential, every-guitarist-should-own exercise/technique builder book? I want the equivelant of Stick Control for the Snare Drummer - basically just pages and pages of exercises and patterns to work on
Members mcmurray
This will keep you busy for a lifetime;http://www.amazon.com/Modern-Method-Guitar-Volumes-Complete/dp/0876390114/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231416461&sr=8-1 That one is standard notation only unfortunately. Maybe someone else can chime in with a decent TAB book.
Members pfizer
May I point you to Rock Discipline and Wild Stringdom both by John Petrucci? Rock Discipline also has its more famous DVD counterpart but some prefer the Book+CD version. If you're into heavy metal and shredding in particular, try Troy Stetina's Speed Mechanics For Lead Guitar. Both books will keep you busy for a LOOONNGGG time...keep in mind though that they are more for technique than anything so don't expect much by way of music theory. Personally, I prefer instructional DVDs quite a bit more since I'm more of a visual learner and I already practically read for a living and it's not something I want to do more of in my free time. If you're open to DVDs, try the DVD version of Rock Discipline. You'd also probably enjoy Complete Intense Rock by Paul Gilbert and the Speed Kills series by Metal Method (starring that ambidextrous freakshow, Michael Angelo Batio).
