Members zwanman89
I've been messing around with this scale and really like the sound of it, but have been unable to find a name for it on the interwebz. It's a pentatonic scale, basically Locrian without the IV or vii (or however you want to think of it. This is just the most efficient mode to play it in for me, regarding switching hand positions and what have you, so it's how I've come to think of it). Or: 1 b2 b3 b5 b6 Sounds very similar to the Pelog scale. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.
Members gennation
I do a pretty full blown tutorial on this scale here: http://lessons.mikedodge.com/lessons/IndSlide/indslidehome_frames.htm But it's viewed as M3 4 5 b7 R, like for C you'd play E F G Bb C. It even sounds better if you focus the scale on the b7, so C you'd have, Bb C E F G. It's used quite frequently in music by Shakti, John Mclaughlin and U Shrinivas both write using this scale. Members zwanman89
Thanks dude. I've actually been listening to a good amount of Shakti recently and I've always listened to Mahavishnu, so that's probably where I picked up the sound. Then you DEFINITELY have to check out that lesson I posted. Here's Part 1 and 2 of the lessons, VERY Shakti-ish...http://lessons.mikedodge.com/lessons/IndSld-index.htm I've copped A LOT of Mclaughlin and Shrinivas over the years...ummm, decades. Enjoy!
