Members spaceshot
i have been thinking of getting a new boss eq pedal and upgrading the chips with those sniper mod ic's. are the chips socketed or do they have to be desoldered? i imagine the board must be pretty tight with small traces - i get nervous soldering ic's. Members Speeddemon
they are not socketed, but there is room for sockets. I replaced the 4 IC's of my MIJ GE-7 with TL072's. And added sockets.

Members Speeddemon
Originally posted by spaceshot thanks, was there a big improvement? worth the time? well, it was mandatory, since I noticed some crackling in the sound. The new opamps fixed that and made the sound better. The difference after the mod for Japanese GE-7's is minimal (at least IMO. I have 2 to compare it with), but a silver label Taiwanese would definately improve by it. Basically I can raise ALL the frequency sliders (with Level to '0' dB) to the max and have no extra noise. (apart from some really small hissing, because of the 6k4 slider) But if you play clean and have a good guitar with a decent cable, you wouldn't notice it.
