When I cut frequencies with MXR EQ it increases noise!! This doesn't make sense to me

I know its probably not a very good eq pedal. It is very strong in it boost/cut capabilities. BUt is this noise thing just a question of quality?

the boss ge-7 does the same thing. i usually only cut frequencies and it adds a decent amount of hiss. not too big a deal i guess...i mean i mainly need it for live stuff anyway.
