I later played a '67 Custom Esquire (bound body, rosewood fingerboard). I've been playing Strats and Teles since (a l o n g time now). I want to go back to an Esquire for certain applications. I see Fender is making some Custom Shop stuff and a Mexican RI. I am seeking input on new Esquires from owners. Of course, I'm looking for that early "Jeff Beck sound". I've heard his PUP was 5.86 k ohms - a pretty "weak winding" for a bridge PUP. I am interested in different new models, different tone circuit mods and different pickup recommendations, regardless of price. Any input is appreciated.
