Is there a way to dial down the background noise when not playing? It would be nice for any silent passages in songs that when there's no signal there isn't this "phased" hiss coming through my amp. Any trim pot adjustments for example?

try different power supplies or batteries. the pedal is generally a somewhat noisy one, maybe try a noise supressor after it.

I'm using a Pedalpower 2 so I don't think there's a problem with the supply.

If there's hiss, it will be phased. It doesn't necessarily mean that the hiss itself is coming from the phaser.

 

Is the hiss still there if you turn your guitar's volume down all the way? If there's nothing between your guitar and amp except the pedal? See if there's hiss without the pedal being hooked up at all, too.

 

The phasing can make the hiss more pronounced, with the "swoosh", but chances are decent that the source of the hiss itself could be elsewhere.

It was there with the guitar volume all the way down but I haven't tried the pedal alone into the amp yet - will see what happens.

I put the Nano Small Stone in the loop of my NS-2. It's dead quiet.
