T, check out this old thread of mine from GJ- will definitely jog your memory. Lotsa love over there
http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1315167

 6 pages of participation. Granted, that was the Guitar Jam forum in '06; but still... I guess all the guys old enough to remember don't really hang out in HCFX.

There were some good ones in there, and some I don't recognize at all.

Another fav of mine was Nazareth's cover of "Love Hurts" (cool phased guitar sound), though I didn't realize it was a cover of the Everly Brothers until very recently. The original version absolutely beautiful, so I'll post both:

Actually it was 13 pgs. and stickied at one point :o And yeah, Love Hurts is a classic- thanks for posting the original  Speaking of power pop/Beatles influenced, The Knacks's My Sharona is still a gem (I know, very late 70's)- really the one song that I can point to that originally made me want to play guitar and my favorite guitar solo (long version of course ) bar none. Actually, that whole debut album still stands as one of the best power pop albums of all time...

Great song/album, for sure.

Yeah, other than release dates, it's so arbitrary to fit things in genres. In my scheme, The Knack goes in this thread: Greatest Songs of the nEw_WaVe Era? I'm not sure what separates my "Have A Nice Day" era from the Knack  - Chris Thomas' productions, I guess, which seemed to strip the hazy hippie element out of late 70's Rock music. Not that he produced the Knack, but it sort of has that aesthetic about it, which was hip in '79.

Here are some more post-hippie, pre-punk gems:

Steve Miller Band, Rock N Me

Jefferson Starship, Count On Me (I love the Marty Balin stuff)

remember Steeler's Wheel? Best voice ever right here- Sonic Youth did a pretty damn good cover:

As much as I love Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino pretty much took the nostalgia out of Stuck In The Middle for me. Now all I can think of is Marvin's ear :freak: Awesome song though!

I love Karen Carpenter's voice too. I had the Only Yesterday single when I was 5. The chorus is really cheesy, but her voice is so f'in sexy when she comes in on the first verse. I could just melt

Okay, if we're going all Love Boat with this, then we have to add this one:

10cc's "The Things We Do For Love"- my personal favorite "AM Radio Hit of the 70's". As a recording enthusiast it blows my mind. No pitch correction or Protools back then.

Sorry, no embeddy.

ELO, too. Jeff Lynne's a mother{censored}er.

I was just listening to 10cc's greatest hits the other day :thu: The band that first used this:

I love Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides. It made great use of "I'm Not In Love" and "Strange Magic."

I was walking through Walgreens' Drugstore the other day, and "Sentimental Lady" was playing over the PA. I remember seeing Bob Welch's French Kiss album cover when I was a kid, but I never knew that he sang these songs. They are really cheesy, but I kind of like hearing them now, and they fit perfectly with this thread:
