Had one of those for a while ~ great little amps! :)

I'd suggest using an od pedal as a "clean boost," with the pedal's volume maxed & gain around 8-9 o'clock, to drive the amp's overdrive channel into shred territory. I used both a Keeley SD-1 and a Bad Monkey for just that purpose with my V3112 and the both worked great. The BM was perhaps a little smoother & richer, while the SD-1 was more ragged & aggressive. Ymmv, of course. :)

Nice amp! I wouldn't worry too much about whether or not your preamp/overdrive is valve-driven, the differences are subtle at the best of times.

Both of draelyc's suggestions are worth checking out, the Bad Monkey is cheap and will work best if your amp's already overdriven. Robert Keeley's stuff is pricey and in high demand at the moment, so if you don't want to go down that route try a tubescreamer-type pedal like a Maxon OD808, or maybe a ProCo RAT.
