Sonar 7 (or, Annual Payments to Cakewalk)

I also much rather have a program that's under constant and regular improvement! :) And as already has been said: You don't have to upgrade each time!

-I used Sonar 1 for a very very long time, and I'm still on Sonar 5 now.

But I will most probably upgrade to 7 soon... :)

And you think Ableton Live does not have the same upgrade treadmill going?

Oh, absolutely - all software does. However, for as long as I have used it, the release have been spaced pretty well, and each time the update has come there has been something worth upgrading for (in fact, usually several things).

 

My problem with cakewalk was that the treadmill was more of an annual $200 hit, and I the areas of the program I felt impacted my work most negatively were never addressed, and to my knowledge still havnt been addressed. The differences were mostly cosmetic when, at the time, there were serious engine issues involving internal syncronization of software synthesizers that essentially broke it for me.

 

I left sonar for a number of reasons, and its treadmill was one of them.
