Members lefort_1
Is the finish-checking near the neck joint consistant withthe rest of the guitar?=yes? then maybe it's all original/no reset=no then assume it's been reset. The black area sure would be an odd choice, but then again, Gibson did the "Stinger" black stain on the back of some headstocks, too. The crack in the top that parallels the neck on the top bout is very troubling. 12vers put a lot of stress on the guitar.Get a dental mirror (cheap at the local pharmacy) and take a look inside...there may be patches, signs of extra cement from a repair, etc.
Members Jumbo Fuzz
I have read that some years of B-45 have had problems with caving in on themselves and crack may be a sign of that problem. I anticipate passing on this one, but I am legitimately curious about the black area for future vintage shopping education.
