Mounting pedals to pedalboard

I've had this pedalboard a while, which uses adhesive felt that can be cut for the pedals.

I've changed it around 3 times, but now I'm going to change a lot of my pedals, and would prefer the freedom of moving them every so often.

What's the best way? I've saw that Pedalboard Tape Grip, but looks a bit TOO much - I'd prefer to keep my pedals pristine, rather than have the adhesive and glue stick there forever. I'm a little worried Velcro would give me the same problem.

Is there something I'm missing that would benefit me?

I've seen people use zip ties and even bicycle chain links (whatever those are called). Though I'm not sure if those would wear the paint after a while. I know a dude that bought plain bottom plates of the MXR sized, 1590AA, 125BB, etc. enclosures to replace the bottom plates that came with the pedals, so he could velcro them without ruining the original plate, though that isn't an option for all pedals, like the line 6 stuff and bigger things. Unless you are crafty enough with scrap sheet metal to cut your own plates?
