RC-300 Loop Station - Changing Rhythm w/Footswitch

I have a Hosa FSC-385 dual footswitch with appropriate stereo interconnect cable plugged into the CTRL 1,2 input in the RC-300.  What I want to do is be able to scroll through the rhythm patterns with the switches.  The problem I'm having is they will only toggle between the Min & Max setting instead of stepping one pattern up or down at a time.  Is there a way to do this or have a reached a limitation with the equipment?  Thank you so much for any advice here.
