Members rj.phila
hey folks, wondering if any of you have some insight into this unit. can it be used when NOT connected to an OB synth or drum machine? i just picked one up, and it just reads"oberheim dsx" in the display, and doesnt respond to any of the buttons. i replaced the internal battery, and checked the voltages coming of the power section-its all correct. is this right? thanks for any help-rj
Members Suilebhain
I bought one of those and a used DMX (the drum machine) from a music store a few years back that had sold the OB-8 without them. At the time I wrote to Tom Oberheim because I could not get it to work. The bottom line is, without some sort of custom interface, in order to use the DSX you need the big flat cable and something to hook it up to, something like an OB-8. Otherwise the thing is dead in the water, waiting for a signal along that buss.
Members rj.phila
ahh, great! thanks for that. im waiting for the 37 pin d-sub cable to arrive in the mail; i've got an OBXA, but was hoping to use it as a standalone sequencer for CV/gate interfacing. good to know. Members Suilebhain
Once you have it connected to the OB, you can then use it with the CV/Gates. I tried really hard to find an OB-8 back then but realized that it was kinda foolish to spend all that money (that I really didn't have) just to use the sequencer.
