Members Sir Don
Can anyone tell me if putting a 16 ohm speaker into a solid state combo will produce a significant difference than the 8 ohm that came with the amp? As i understand it there will be a difference in volume, is this correct?
Members tommythelurker
Not enough information, also depends on the efficiency and the frequency response may affect the percieved volume. But all else being equal, yes, it would be a little quieter but not much.
Members guitarman967
Well, there's no such thing as Ohmage. There is a speaker's Impedience that is expressed in ohms. As far as your questions is concerned, you will probably notice a volume increase as well as some mids when switching to the 8ohm speaker. On the flip side the 16Ohm speaker could sound a bit more scooped and add more of the amp's character to the sound considering it would use the amp's output transformer's full winding where as the 8ohm would be tapped off.
