I hate amp shopping

Be warned, this is a rant. Okay, so the best way to amp shop is obviously to go out and play them. But I've been reading up on some differant amps and the reviews people write are driving me nuts. It seems like every tube amp review claims that an amp can nail the "hendrix, van halen, srv, zz top, ac/dc and allman bros band". If it was really that easy I think most sound and recording engineers would be out of a job. It's especially fustrating if you don't want marshall tone, because it seems to me that most amps are going for that, or at least percieved to be that by the general amp reviewing public. Okay, so that's my rant. I've got a first gen tweed blues Jr now, and love it. I just want something louder for band practice...
