Edit: Scroll down and save a copy to preserve Flemming's bandwidth bitches, and then go cop your genuine MoP tone!!! You can substitute a Geoff Daking Pre/EQ for the console settings(it's a clone) for $1450. Michael Wagener's mixing rates are reasonable too ;)

Rassmussen himself is going to dig up the production notes, from guitar cord to tape.

Stay tuned guys!

The guy who produced and engineered the older metallica albums was invited to come on that board and talk about some mic equipment/settings:

Hi There

Flemming Rasmussen here. Thanks for the invitation.

I was aked to tell a little about the vocal recordings on Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.

Both those albums were recorded on my Trident A range desk from 1976. (I still have it), and I used the mic-preamp in the desk, and the eq as well.

The signal was then send to a Urei 1176 Compressor and straight to tape. Both albums recorded on 2" ampex tape.

I cant remember what mike i used, but I will check that out for You.

It was probably a Neumann U 87, but Im not shure.

Hope this answers your questions.

i Everybody

Now I had some time to think about it, and check my notes,

Im pretty shure James sang into either a Neumann U-87 or a Shure SM-7.

The Shure SM-7 is one of my favorite mics.

Going through my notes I found all the Guitar eq,s including amp settings for "Master of Puppets" & "and Justice" if You are interested I'll post them

but it is pretty extensive, so be warned.

Keep posting

Everyone's waiting for him to get back with all the settings they ever had along with equipment!

Hi Guys

I've been thinking how to do this - so this is the first "Test posting"

Please respond with ideas to make this easier to understand, or (moderator) if the pics are taking up too much space on your server.

This is the Jamez Guitar EQs for Battery rtm gtrs.

The Amp is Jamex Boogie into 2 Marshal cabs. Inserted in the loop on the amp,

is a B&B Audio (Aphex) parametric EQ EQF-1 as show on the left side of the pic.

The mics used are:

1 SM57 Shure in the center of the cone on one of the lower speakers.

1 B&K (DPA) 4006 omni on another speaker centercone.

1 AKG gold-tube in a 45 degree angle to the sideedge of the cab. aprox 4 feet away.

Miking is identical for both cabs.

The settings on the top is the amp settings including the Graf EQ on the Amp.

Mid Right is the EQF-1 loop eq settings.

Bottom is the EQ on the Desk a Trident A-range.

far left SM 57 it means

5K=-2 10K=+3, 150hz=+9, 1K=-3, 50hz lowcut(hipass) Fader=-10.

Hope this is understandable.

Enjoy

Yep, and I don't personally believe that V30's are on AJFA either (just posted that at GS while you posted this... so you beat me twice in my own thread now, LOL).

Or fools seldom differ...

"Actually, the Marshall cabs from that era with Vintage 30's were rated at 300W. They were just called "Celestion Vintage," but they were essentially V30's. I used to have a Marshall 4X12 from late '91 or so, and it was a 300W cab with Vintage 30's. So, it's entirely possibly James was correct in saying the cabs had V30's in them."

:o

Maybe if I wasn't 9 months old when the album came out, I would've known better.

So that takes us back to square one again.:(
