Members unicornwarrior
Hey there, i'm not much of a keys guy myself but a friend of mine has a roland rd-300sx digital stage piano and can't get it to record. He is using the computer and was able to use it as a midi keyboard to control the piano sounds on garageband, but he wants to be able to use the keyboard's own sounds. He lives out of town so he asked me but I can't really tinker with it to find out. What is needed for him to connect his keyboard to garageband in order to direct in record? Seeing as I play guitar, I use a preamp that goes in thru usb. does he need something like that? help me out guys!
Members soundwave106
Just an audio interface. If the computer has a line level input, you can even use the Macintosh's internal audio I imagine (with the appropriate adapter -- probably a 1/4" to 1/8"). But you can get better results with a simple USB audio interface. (You don't need one with a preamp, just one with line level inputs.)
Members Mediterranean
Hi unicorn, What soundwave said is basically it. Here's a diagram I made some time ago when somebody else asked a similar question. That's what you need:) The audio interface shown is just an example. There are tons of other interfaces you can choose from. But the principle is the same.
