Members G-tarist
I'm after an AC30 knockoff, and no, I'm not asking which one I should go for - I'd probably get a whole bunch of "Right...your budget and requirements are x but I'm going to suggest y because I have opinions:freak: " Sorry...got a little sidetracked there. I've heard that the Laney VC30 uses a solid state rectifier, and me no like solid state...is it possible to just rip it out and stick a tube one in there or would I be stuck with it? Cheers. Members GuitarHitman
It's only the rectifier. It's basically what converts the mains (AC) supply to a DC supply. You'll find an awful lot of tube amps have solid state rectifiers. There is a little difference in compression and response to dynamics but nothing major that makes all the difference between good tone and bad tone. It's more the response in the amp but I don't think it's anything worth worrying about.
