Members JohnH
Hi - Im new to this forum. I have a Marshall DSL 401 combo, and I see it gets mostly bad press in here. But I've had mine since April, and I am getting more and more pleased with it as I learn how to control its many settings. Im posting this because I wanted to share my answer to what I think is its main issue, which is a lack of low end bass. THis comes about due to the tone of the stock 'Goldback' speaker, and also the voicing of he OD channels, which involve strong bass de-emaphasis. My gadget is a bass booster that sits in the parallel FX loop. it has no contols of its own, but with it engaged, the FX mix control becomes a low bass booster - and I can dial in huge bass, with the stock speaker. The advantage is no mods to the amp, and it is much cheaper than a Vintage 30. It is very well behaved, and adds no nasties to the sound. I have a full description here, on Guitarnuts2, which is my usual guitar hang-out on the net.http://guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=wiring&action=display&thread=1159257021 I'm putting this post here in case it may help someone else. cheers John
