Members AndyZ
As promised I threw together a quick set of clips with a few vantage spots on the Amp/Quickmod. I'll try and do a few more short clips next week with a buddy's Fender. These clips are pretty short and simple. Just a few Chunks, open chords and lead line to hear the differences. In a couple of clips you may hear a knocking noise. It's not the amp but the clothes dryer running before I remembered to shut my door. Ahh...recording at home! Here's what I used this time... '95 Tele Special with a Seymour Duncan Lil 59 in bridge. The Epiphone Valve Jr modded with a Radiospares Output Tranny, Choke, other circuit mods, 80's Russian Military spec EL84 into a '74 Marshall 4x12 with 25w G12M blackbacks. Here's the original thread about the Kasha Quickmod where you can basically create a 1 channel amp into 2 channels or 2 into 3, and so on and so on... http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1463747 The Amp was set at 12 o clock (approx 5 on volume) for all clips. 1) No Quickmod - just the amp as it is http://www.instituteofnoise.com/music/amps/EpiVJ-NoQM-Vol-5.mp3 2) Quickmod Post Gain 8, Gain 0 http://www.instituteofnoise.com/music/amps/EpiVJ-QM-PG8-G0.mp3 3) Quickmod Post Gain 6, Gain 3 http://www.instituteofnoise.com/music/amps/EpiVJ-QM-PG6-G3.mp3 4) Quickmod Post Gain 6, Gain 7 http://www.instituteofnoise.com/music/amps/EpiVJ-QM-PG6-G7.mp3 5) Quickmod Post Gain 6, Gain 10 http://www.instituteofnoise.com/music/amps/EpiVJ-QM-PG6-G10.mp3 Pic of the waveforms... Quickmod plugged into the tube socket... Back of amp and Quickmod with cable... The setup for these clips... Maybe hard to see but the tube sockets light up! Members AndyZ
I wanted to add I would have had the Post Gain louder if I could to even thicken the tone more, but it was so excessively loud as it was even at 6.

Members potaetoes
that's a lot less gain than i expected from adding four gain stages. what gives? what happens if you keep the post gain really low, and crank the pre gain and the amp's volume knob way up? Members AndyZ
The Post Gain acts like a master volume and adds some tone shaping. There's not 4 gain stages, only 2. Don't forget that's a 5 watt amp with an EL84. By adding the gain and the amp vol at 100% it's as saturated as an EL84 can get. Same effect as any amp, when the master is down and gain is up. If it's reall low it will sound thinner than if it's more opened up. Personally the amp doesn't sound as good as if it's backed of a bit. I just picked 12 o'clock to be in some sort of neutral position.
