Members Innervisions
Hey guys!I'd like to share you with you something pretty cool I've just done with my friend Ruslan Sirota (Stanley Clarke, Chick Corea). We made a Rihanna cover, using the grand piano to imitate also the 'guitar', 'bass', and 'drums'. What do you think? Members Mediterranean
Proof that an acoustic piano is all you need to make music! I love the tone of the "bass" and the idea of muting the dampers [?] to produce that sound! Fantastic video work also! It's a CANON!!
Members Innervisions
Thanks man! To get that bass sound actually we physically muted the strings with our hands (you can kinda see it in the video for a few seconds) And indeed, it was my Canon 60D with the 50mm/1.4 lens! Members Plink Floyd
Wonderful, as always! It's a great song, even without the clever gimmickry of making all the noises by clicking and tapping the piano. Did that kick drum sound really come from thumping the piano lid? btw, I love this singer. [video=youtube;zKckKBYmN_4]
Members Mediterranean
PF, I thought about that kick drum too. My guess is that several "hits" were made and the best-sounding sample was used [i don't think he was playing it live]. I may be wrong of course:)
Members Innervisions
You're right - even though I recorded a few 'phrases' rather than single hits. Yes, the kick was made from the lid sound but obviously heavily EQ'd and processed.
Members Plink Floyd
.Oh, I agree. But, it's such a good BD sound that I had to ask. I'm sure it's gated and/or massaged in other ways, but the sharp, crispy attack makes it hard to believe the sound began as a meaty fist on wood. And even if it's not a lid thump at all, I wouldn't like the song any less. edit: Oh. Fast answer. Well there you are...
Members Innervisions
Yeah, it was kinda challenging to mix. What I ended up doing was duplicating the BD channel and added distortion for the second one to get more 'punch'. I did something similar with the bass tone, as well, even though not as noticeable.
