Members Amigo
I was hoping to do some remixes, I have tones of outboard gear, but no real samplers or anything. I was thinking of getting ableton live and a launchpad to do this, but how is the sound quality on ableton? I'll be dumping everything into protools in the end but will mainly use ableton for lining up and controlling samples and what not. Anyone have experience? is there any other (better) way to go? Members Meatball Fulton
For remixing, Ableton is arguably the best tool for the job. The sound quality when "warping" (time stretching/pitch shifting samples) does deteriorate a bit but that's true of any timestretching tool. If you don't need to warp, there's no loss of quality unless you deliberately reduce the bit rate.
Members liliththekitten
Live is fine. Previous versions of Live didn't sound as good but Live 8 sounds as good as anything else. Previously, some Live users would arrange their tracks in live and bring them into Cubase or whatever for mixdown but that's not necessary anymore. I still keep Live 7 around because I like the old way of warping new samples (its easier and simpler) but I always work in 8 afterwards.
