I need to change both preamp and power tubes in my Engl combo, basically I play Melodic Death and Viking metal etc, so the standard sound comes pretty close. I wouldn't mind tightening it up a bit and adding slightly more gain without losing the clean versatility. I was thinking about Electro Harmonix 12ax7's in the pre and Svetlana 5881's in the power amp. Anyone recommend something different, preferably with experience in this amp? Also what should I use for the phase inverter 12ax7 in the power amp, another Electro Harmonix? Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
