Members Tone Monster
I don't have a clue what is modern, but I know what I like that is a fairly new sound to me such as Arch Enemy's Doomsday Machine... which is a very tight and focused tone with a lot of saturation. if this was around 15 years ago please list some bands... I'm ready to listen. The black album by Metallica is very tight, yet saturated, and that was 16 years ago!

I think Metallica's black album started off the hi-gain modern nu-metalish sound. That album wasn't nu-metalish, but people started to copy it in music that wasn't really metal
Members savethegibbons
Powerballs are pretty damn modern sounding!
Members Inertiatic_SKS
My idea of modern is heavy with fat mids and plenty of gain and an American-made amp a lot of the time EX 5150, Rectos, Mark series, maybe even Tri-Amps or any all-tube H&Ks.
