Members electricmel
I have been searching for some new good stuff. It seems like people talk about the Smashing Bizkit and System of a Tool alot, but nothing new and/or fresh. Any bands been making the hair on yer balls stand up and salute? I have been checking out: The Shins - Oh! Inverted World - Great indie pop with alot of Barret and Beach Boys influences. Beachwood Sparks - Make the Cowboy Robots Cry - Kind of like Gram Parsons meets Neil Young Meets the Grateful Dead. The New Pornographers - Mass Romantic - Pop rock with a late 70's twist - Cars, Cheap Trick... What else????
Members please-drive-faster
Silverchair - Diorama Granted it is not out in the states till next week but if you can pick up an import get it. They really break the mold of being linked to grunge. They have some ballads, some rock songs, of course 2 heavy songs but all in all you can see how the band has matured greatly. Members Nza
Well, actually, the new System of a Down CD quite literally makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up, and gives me goosebumps. It's like Frank Zappa and Slayer doing 12th century opera all in 4/4 time. I didn't think I'd like it because so many people grouped it in with all that Limpkin Bizpark POD 182 crap, but when I finally heard it, I was completely blown away. But, if you don't like that... How 'bout Wilco's newish Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album? Kinda like somebody put The Band on a spaceship piloted by Brian Eno that's traveling back in time. Really, really good album. Like some Beach Boys influence? I cannot recommend any album more than Mr. Bungle's California...it's like the Beach Boys took all the different indiginous musics grouped into that umbrella term "world music" and shoved it into a California pop/jazz/metal masterpiece. Really amazing music...easily one of the best "rock" albums ever, and quite an experience.

I'll have to buy the CD and I'm holding YOU personally responsible... I've been listening to most of that Pedro cd and I like it. I'm going to buy it soon. Also, I like the Beta Band, I just haven't ever dug too deeply. Good idea.

One day someone with the right contacts is going to "discover" them and then that'll be the end of watching them in small clubs.

Members blameshifter
Nice. New Pornogrophers are great, the Shins are good too. I've been listening to Destroyer's Streethawk: A Seduction-if you don't know Destroyer is fronted by New Pornographer Dan Bejar. Good Bowie influenced stuff. Speaking of which, Bowie is omni-present. Also listening to a lot of the Mekons and the Mountain Goats (best lyrics, ever-EVER!). Neutral Milk Hotel-It'd be nice if they'd ever record another album but I don't think it's going to happen. Also listening to a lot of Television, Sleater-Kinney and Felt. I'm a pretty big Spoon fan and am really disapointed with their latest effort. Just a terrible album. Members WattsUrizen
That 'Best Song in the World' piece is quite good. It's really just traditional harmonic rock, but with all those eccentricites thrown in, it makes for a fun song.

It sounds like something that is just on the verge of falling apart but never does... like the one time it was recorded is the only time the music will ever be played exactly that way... i would give my left nut to see them live, but the last time they came to so. fla. was six years ago.....oh yeah and the new superdrag. its rawkous but its no "headtrip..." I love Pedro the Lion's Control. I've been listening to that one and "Winner's Never Quit" a lot lately. I especially like the song about going to grandma's house on the latter. Their singer's voice is perfect. Wilco came to Omaha at the end of July, so I got the pleasure of seeing them. They may still be on tour? It cost me $20, which is slightly less than one left nut. Anyways, I have pictures of both Pedro the Lion and Wilco on my website, if you are interested. Unfortunately, the Wilco pictures turned out less than stellar. Also, I moved to Denver a few weeks ago, and saw Superdrag at the Bluebird theater. They put on a pretty damn good show as well. I will have pictures of that show on my website as soon as I fix my scanner. And here's my addition to the thread topic. The Good Life. Their newest CD, "Black Out," came out this May, and I still listen to it at least once a week. It is a concept album, and I don't really know how to place it as far as genres go. All I know is its damn good.

Members Docktor Rocktor
I haven't seen any mtv for awhile, and i don't listen to commercial radio much, so my picks may be old news to some, but current bands that I like include: Mr. Airplane man, dan the automator, the white stripes, reverend glasseye and his wooden legs, le tigre, nomeansno, dr. octogon, cibo mato, the magnetic fields, and the yeah yeah yeahs. I think these are mostly east coast bands, and I think they're mostly pretty small time. I don't get out much anymore, though, so who knows. but anyone looking for a unique sound should check them out. I'm pretty picky about music, and i look high and low for the good stuff. I do kind of like that record, though. You'd think it would have been usurped by einstrezende neubautin or somebody, but it really hasn't been. Members philip w
Both of the*** Doves*** last two...but especially lost souls. Think Pink Floyd, Massive Attack, Stone Roses and head on the door era Cure all roled into one. A classic. Wonderful live. Just discovered Colexico (actually played a date with them on the road)....think graham parsons with stereo lab. Lots of feel. Found Slayers "South of Heaven" tape in my parents attic- yes! They still rule! Le Tigre is fun and inventive. Also....Rye Coalition. Get your big rock ON!
