Members Carcinogen
When I bought my X100B, the tubes were dead so I replaced them immediatly. The amp tech I went to put 5881's in it based on their reliability, he puts them in pretty much everything that can take them. I was just curious, though, because my amp is designed for the 6L6, and I'm curious as to how differant it would sound if I put them in. Can anybody describe the main tonal differances between the two?
Members Fxrs
Pretty much the same tube, usually described as having a more subdued top end.

Members Carcinogen
Okay, so 5881=slightly less treble?
Members gproud
Depending on who you talk to. Today's 5881's for the most part are just 6L6 guts stuffed inside a slightly different bottle. I know that Tung-Sol is making 'real' 5881's again. As for difference in tone, I have no idea.
