Members OranJuice
I'm debating whether to get either a ceriatone Plexi 1987 or a JCM800 2204 What are the pros and cons of both? I play in a wide variety of styles, anything from folk all the way up to metal. I was thinking of getting the plexi and using pedals for distortion. However, the JCM800 2204 seems like a good way to go too. Can you guys help me out?
Members legend71
I had the 2204 but have not owned the plexi. The 2204 was a good amp and was pretty versatile for what it was. A little bright (but I guess it was supposed to be that way). Great tone when cranked too. Seemed to be past its sweet spot when the gain was maxed out. Tone controls were reasonably responsive. Don't know about the plexi. I would imagine it would have less gain....hope this helps. Sorry if it doesn't.
Members Heineken
A friend of mine has the Ceriatone 2204. I recently sold my Marshall 2204. They didn't sound very much alike. In fact i liked the Ceriatone a bit better. More gain and warmer, maybe because its all point-to-point wired instead of the PCB-board in the Marshall, or it could be the very old tubes in my ex-Marshall. I'd take the 2204 over the Plexi anyway since it has a master volume. Since the Ceriatone's arent EXACT clones of the Marshall i'm guessing the Ceriatone Plexi/2204 kits are VERY much the same, exept the master volume and inputs. Members Shask
I recently built a Plexi, and coverted it into a JCM800. A loud-ass clean sound just wasnt very useful to me. Sounded good for what it was though. The JCM800 is more my style...
