Members maxkazar
So I want to start recording to my PC using a real Mic, just goofing around and maybe playing to some backing tracks and stuff. I plan on using Audacity, I have used it before with a Digitech RP150 I used to have, I went straight thru the RP to USB, actually came out pretty good. I just picked up a Mic, a Nady SP5http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Nady-SP5-Dynamic-Cardioid-Neodymium-Mic?sku=277173&src=3WFRWXX&ZYXSEM=0&CAWELAID=26021227 So what else do I need? A Mic Preamp?I have been looking at these, http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-Tube-MP-Studio-V3-Mic-Preamp?sku=180610 http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-Tube-MP-Project-Series-Tube-MicrophoneInstrument-Preamp?sku=180643 http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-Tube-MP-Professional-Mic-PreampProcessor?sku=484020 http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-Tube-MP-Studio-Mic-Preamp?sku=180581 http://www.guitarcenter.com/PreSonus-TubePre-Microphone-Preamp-101966174-i1125339.gc http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-MIC200-Tube-ULTRAGAIN-Preamp-182491-i1125225.gc http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-Tube-Ultragain-Mic100-Preamp-182482-i1125216.gc Will those work? Would the signal chain be like this?Mic>XLR cable>Mic Preamp in>1/4" out>1/8" adapter>PC Soundcard Thanks for help
Members Skunx
I would look into one of the audio interfaces like a toneport rather than just a mic pre. It would take the place of your pc's soundcard. Or get one of the m audio pci cards. I have heard some very decent sounding recordings with those. I'm sure someone else will chime in with some better suggestions.

Members Pablo Jose
As Skunx said. Toneport will act as your PC soundcard/Asio. Get some free recording software like Reaper. Tons of free VST plugins out there. http://www.cockos.com/reaper/download.php.
Members maxkazar
If I get a Toneport would I use a XLRAlso would a tube mic preamp between the Mic and Toneport help or be necessary? Im trying to go for a pure tube/analog kinda setup. I dont use alot of effects but the Toneport stuff looks fun to muck around with. Why do I need VST Plugins? Or Reaper? Members Skunx
The toneport has a xlr input. It would be the mic pre. You don't need to use any plug ins or effects. It would sound much better than going from some {censored}ty art tube mic pre into your {censored}ty pc soundcard. Just get a toneport or similar interface (usb, firewire, pci) with an xlr input. Hook the interface up to your pc then hook a mic to interface with a mic cable. Then you'll be in business
Members maxkazar
Oh, I was looking at the "guitarport" which has no XLR. Ok then. Thanks
