Members DeadNight Warrior
So, who knows something about Ibanez RG neck markings? Just pulled the neck off my old MIJ RG470. Body is marked as RG470, as it should be... Neck is marked with this though. RG-550R #2? WTF's that all about?
Members dreamspace
Dunno, but I had the same thing with my neck. marked as RG550.edit: The thing is that most 550s from the 470-era had the skunk/bubingastrip on the back.

Yeah, well it's confused me quite thoroughly. The other thing being that a 550 would have a Wizard neck, whereas this feels like a Wizard II to me. Then again, it's been a while since I played a Wizard neck, so maybe I'm just remembering them wrong. Pretty sure I'm not though.

Members DeadNight Warrior
inspected by #2 at QC? Possibly, but why mark it RG550 when the 550 would have had the Wizard and the 470 the Wizard II?
Members Toshiro
Japanese Wizard II with a rosewood board. For some reason they used "550" instead of "Wizard" in the stamps on later RG470s.
Members DirtyBird
It means nothing. My RG470 neck is exactly the same, it's a common thing. Apparently there are no necks that say "RG470" on them. http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f18/mij-rg470-neckstamp-says-hey-i-am-a-550-a-42559.html If you notice our very own Toshiro makes an appearance there also. If it's an MIJ 470 with the AANJ, it'll have a Wizard II. If it had a Wiz I it would have a bubinga stripe through it. No Bubinga stripe + AANJ = Wiz II. Wiz II = RG470
Members DeadNight Warrior
Thanks. It's pretty much as I thought, just the marking threw me off. Rosewood board, no stripe, what felt like a Wizard II profile... but marked with a Wizard profile guitar model no.? WTF?
