Will closing the back of a 2x12 combo improve quality?

I've been researching Marshall amps, and think for my situation a 2x12 combo is the best way to go. However, I had also heard that you can't get the "marshall tone" unless you are running through a half stack with a closed back. My question is, will closing the back of a 2x12 combo amp (with plywood or something like that) give me the half-stack sound?

A closed back cabinet will give you a lil bigger and somewhat bassier/boomy type tone - but im not so sure about a '1/2 stack sound' but it will sound slightly fuller..

Why go through all that trouble? Just buy a Marshall head and some brand of 2x12 closed-back cab (like Mesa or Avatar). It still won't be exactly a half stack sound but it will be close enough.

If it's a tube combo, it will overheat.

Don't believe everything you hear. I play through a JVM215C 1 x 12 combo. Sounds like a Marshall to me.

Yup. Maybe a tad bit more bass response? Probably barely noticeable.
