Members lindsayward
Hi there, I'm interested in making something like the "portable vocal booth", like the Reflexion Filter:sE Electronics (manufacturer) SOS news item (construction image) Has anyone ever made anything like this before, and/or have any tips? It mentions having a layer of "aluminium foil", so I wonder if regular cooking-type alfoil would be suitable. I'm not sure what "absorptive wool" is, but maybe any wool would work. I was thinking for the main frame, I could get a metal waste paper basket and cut it in half vertically to get the two curved pieces (front and back), then connect these with bolts of the same size to leave the gaps... Any advice would be appreciated!
Members nobrainer440
Absorptive wool is most likely rock wool, a dense type of insulation, like rigid fiberglass, often used in soundproofing.
Members g-nem
I was thinking about this today- seems like it would be pretty simple to make something similar to the reflexion- just read up on what it is made out of and throw a bunch of that stuff together. I'm sure it would be hard to make something that will work AS WELL, but in a pinch. . . BTW there is a nice review of the reflexion in the new tape-op. Members mmb
I've used military surplus wool blankets hanging from an old aluminum tent frame as a make shift recording booth for spoken word voice overs. It is pretty ugly, but it gets the job done and knocks down any echos.
