You actually would TRAVERSE the Rubicon since it's the famous river in Italy that Julius Caesar crossed with his army after defeating the Gauls as an act of treason to overthrow the Republic and establish the line of Emperors that governed Rome for the next 500 years."Crossing the Rubicon" is sort of a figure of speech analogous to burning your bridges politically and throwing in all your chips on a possibly suicidal political move."Transcending" the Rubicon just sounds illiterate and stupid.
